They’re driving an ’84… Sheepdog; Dumb and Dumber 2 Begins Production This September

You read right Dumb and Dumber fans, Lloyd Christmas, and Harry Dunne are back!

It was confirmed earlier today, that Dumb and Dumber 2 will begin production this September. After an 18 year hiatus, it seems that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have the comedy urge once again. According to Carrey was in lengthy discussion with Bobby and Peter Farrelly on a potential sequel.

“We’re getting set to shoot ‘Dumb and Dumber 2’ in September,” he says. “It’s the first sequel we’ve ever done and we’ve got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back.”

The news came at the press junket for the Farrelly brothers newest flick The Three Stooges. The comedy at one point boasted an incredible rumored cast which would have seen Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro play the funny trio. Instead Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, and Chris Diamantopoulos will star the much watered down Three Stooges remake.

1994 was a big year for Carrey who sparked his comedic career in a mainstream way. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, then The Mask, and then Dumb and Dumber catapulted Carrey’s career, and he hasn’t looked back since. In fact, Carrey was offered $700,000 to do Dumb and Dumber, but Ace Ventura: Pet Detective opened at number one at the box office and that upped his salary to a staggering $7 million, almost half the budget of the movie!

Jeff Daniels who has done a plethora of different genres in film, is one of the more versatile actors in Hollywood. Dumb and Dumber certainly put Daniels on the map to a young demographic, and 18 years later he’s willing to give it another shot.

Dumb and Dumber cost a modest 17 million dollars to make in 1994, but had a worldwide gross of $247,275,374. The film has gained a “cult classic” label over the years, and is one of the most quotable comedies ever made. It’s a personal favorite of mine, and it’s one of those movies you can watch over and over again. Thanks to TBS that has been the case for many viewers, as the channel has aired the movie numerous times.

The film has quite the history, and according to IMDB some of them may surprise you. For example, did you know Martin Short and Steve Martin both turned down the role of Lloyd? The original cast to play Harry and Lloyd were Gary Oldman, and Nicolas Cage…. could you even imagine that?

Well it’s great news for comedy fans that Dumb and Dumber 2 has become a reality, and while comedy has taken a different twist in the modern era, hopefully Dumb and Dumber 2 will bring back the nostalgia of Harry and Lloyd’s incredibly hilarious adventure.
