The Great Gatsby (Opening Christmas Day)

“The Great Gatsby” which is set to release on Christmas day, has the internet buzzing, after it released a crafty trailer for fans.

The film which boasts an impressive cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Tobey Maguire, and highly respected Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, has already caught the attention of many.

“The Great Gatsby” follows Nick Caraway (Tobey Maguire) a man from the Midwest who eventually lands in New York City around 1922. A time where morals have no value, and the rich are super rich. Nick is an inspiring man, who eventually runs into Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) a millionaire who lives lavishly. Nick is quickly fascinated by the lifestyle Jay Gatsby leads, and is immediately engulfed by his circle. The journey includes what is touted as “obsession, and tragedy.” This film encompasses classic literature, and modernizes it for the 21st century.

Leonardo DiCaprio continues to work on big projects, this time with Director Baz Luhrmann. DiCaprio, who most recently has been tied to the hip of legendary Director Martin Scorsese, has reached massive success through prolific roles. If you haven’t seen The Aviator in which Leo plays the role of aviation enthusiast Howard Hughes, you must. It would be a nice preview on what you can expect from DiCaprio in “The Great Gatsby.”

“The Great Gatsby” is also bound to have success overseas, specifically in India. The most respected Bollywood (the alternative to Hollywood) actor in India is Amitabh Bachchan, who will be playing Meyer Wolfsheim in the film. The 69 year old veteran has not had a significant role in Hollywood before, making this a prolific opening in his crossover career.
