I’m a huge Quentin Tarantino fan, and “Hateful Eight” looks like it will be the most talked about film of the year.
As always “QT” goes against the grain of what is considered “proper” in the film industry. He creates stories that make us gasp in our seats. It’s the type of storytelling that’s hard to find these days, and is almost guaranteed to be innovative and outrageous.
“Hateful Eight” was almost never made after it suffered what many movie directors dread; a leaked screenplay. It then went into a heated lawsuit, and after all that died down the film finally went back into production in November. With an estimated 44 million dollar budget, it’s filled with potential. The film features Jennifer Jason Leigh (Daisy Domergue), Samuel L. Jackson (as Major Marquis Warren), Tim Roth (Oswaldo Mobray), Kurt Russell (John Ruth), and Channing Tatum.
The premise involves a post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunters try to find shelter during a blizzard but get involved in a plot of betrayal and deception.
“For me [‘The Hateful Eight’] has more of a Western Iceman Cometh kind of vibe about it… A bunch of guys in a room who can’t trust each other [a la ‘Reservoir Dogs’]. That wasn’t a marching order when I sat down to write the script, but pretty quickly I realized this is kind of a nice coming-full-circle.” – Tarantino
“Hateful Eight” doesn’t have an official U.S. release date yet, but should hit the big screen by early winter 2015.
